A smart lock should make coming home more convenient. But what happens when its battery runs out? Ring’s newly announced Smart Lock addresses that concern with a built-in Power Dial on the outside of the door.

Backup Power at Your Fingertips

According to Ring, turning the Power Dial supplies backup power when the battery is depleted. The user still needs to authenticate before entering.

The announced access options include a fingerprint reader, PIN code, the Ring app, and Alexa.

Planned U.S. Launch in Early 2027

As of October 9, 2026, Ring’s U.S. product page lists a device price of $249.99 and offers a notification signup for the launch.

U.S. sales are planned for early 2027, subject to required authorization. The model is currently an announced product; final availability and installation documentation should be confirmed before planning a purchase.

A Good Installation Starts with the Door

Ring describes the lock as designed for a standard single-cylinder deadbolt without additional wiring.

Before a future installation, the door and frame should be assessed. The deadbolt should move smoothly, the strike should align correctly, and the mounting area should be in good condition.

It is also useful to decide who needs access, how permissions will be managed, and what setup assistance you expect. These practical details deserve as much attention as the device itself.

The Alex & Family Perspective

At Alex & Family LLC, we follow new home technology with an emphasis on practical benefits and installation quality.

This announcement offers an interesting approach to backup power. Once the product becomes available and its installation requirements are confirmed, homeowners will be better positioned to evaluate whether it fits their property and daily routine.
